CHELAN

The Story

After we passed through smokey Sandpoint, Idaho and Whitefish, Montana, we stopped in a little Washington lake town called Chalen —  which  was also smokey. Long story short, this place was meant to be a waiting spot until the wildfire smoke cleared but we ended up really loving it and we wanted to give the local food scene a try. We scoured for a lunch spot and found a great one! The place is called Bear Foods Market & Café Crêperie and the crepes are tasty!

Bear Foods Market was established in 1973 and is owned by Nick Pascoe and Teresa Farrell. It is the only natural foods store in the area so the place was poppin as people from all over the region flock here to purchase gluten-free, allergy-friendly and healthy food. The store and creperie we’re very clean and modern with a touch of that old western charm.

After living in Europe for awhile, Teresa wanted to bring back the crepes she had grown so fond of during her stay. In 2008 they opened up the creperie as an attached space within the market. You actually have to walk through the market in order to get some crepes — which is totally smart!

The crepes we’re incredible and tasted fresh and natural and we’re already looking forward going back next year! If you ever get a chance to visit Chalen, and you’re into healthy eating, definitely stop over to Bear Foods and tell Nick and Teresa that Wander in the West sent you. 😉
